Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan was born in Sivakasi, Madras State, India on 13 August 1963 to Tamil father Ayyapan and Telugu mother Rajeswari.Sridevi’s mother was from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.Her father was a lawyer. She has a sister and two stepbrothers.

In 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor, a film producer who is also the elder brother of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. They have two daughters, Jahnvi and Khushi.

Sridevi maintained her health by doing yoga and eating Vegetarian diet.

Her acting career started in Tamil films, including as a child artist in the film Thunaivan. She made her debut as an adult in the late 1970s. Regarded as one of the finest actresses in India, Sri’s performances in films in a variety of genres have earned her praise and awards . She left the industry in 1997 to raise her children. During her career, she won five Filmfare Awards: three for Hindi films and one each for Tamil and Telugu films. Her comeback was with English Vinglish in 2012.
