Best Philosophical Puzzle you have to play . What will you do in the situation given below ?

There is a train speeding down the railway tracks.  On the main track there are 5 people playing , One Person is standing On the Other track which is not in use ( Unused Track) . Non of the people are aware of train speeding up towards them. You are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull this lever, the train will switch to  Unused Tracks) from Main Track.

  1. Do nothing, and the train kills the five people on the main track.
  2. Pull the lever, diverting the train onto the side track where it will kill one person.

Here the thing is you have to chose between 5  negligent people playing on main track  Vs  One Person who is Playing on Unused track .

philosophical puzzle?

What will you do ?

In simple terms

According to theorists like Bentham, you ought to pull the lever. Do the maths (Or hedonic calculus) –

  • Do nothing, you’re down four lives.
  • Pull the lever, you’re up four lives.

So its Between + 4 and -4 Lives. But You are killing 1 innocent person against 5 negligent persons.

Imagine the same , if the one on the side track is your family member or friend ? and both the tracks are in use. Do you kill ur loved ones to save 5 unknown . DO you still follow the theories.
